Unintended facade
2018 | Oil on linnen | 96 x 130
"Rosa Boomsma's paintings are created using techniques reminiscent of the old masters. With their modern composition, her work evokes the magic realism movement. Boomsma is propelled by a sense of melancholy; a certain sadness about the impermanence of things and the desire to halt time. Yet, she also seeks and finds beauty. How lovely would spring be if it lasted the whole year? This bittersweet sentiment is evident in the work 'An unintended façade,' where the portrayed woman wears an extravagant dress but seems inwardly focused. Boomsma considers gaze and posture pivotal. Furthermore, atmosphere, color, composition, and tension play significant roles. Boomsma's work is intuitively crafted based on casually taken photographs or constructed images. It is only when she finds it that she knows what she was searching for. Call it recognition, something that resonates."
